Care for your jewelry

 Handmade Silver Jewelry


If you are frustrated with tarnished chains and pearl necklaces rusty and dirty, you're not alone. Contact with the makeup, the heat and the air can damage and darken your favorite jewelry, here is a quick guide to clean and care for your jewelry cheaply. Clean your ornaments and jewelry is as easy as applying a clean and polish, and can use common items found in your kitchen. No need to go to a jeweler for quick cleaning, you can clean and restore your jewelry at home.

Combine 1 tablespoon of mild liquid soap to wash clothes in a cup of warm water. Dip your pearls in soapy mixture for 20 to 30 seconds. Gently wipe pearls with a clean cloth to remove excess moisture. Place your jewelry in a small flat towel. To avoid scratching the surface, keep your pearls in a small cotton bag, away from other jewelry.

Clean your gold jewelry with ammonia solution. Mix 2 tablespoons of liquid dishwashing detergent, 2 cups of warm water and 1-4 drops of ammonia in a plastic container. Soak your gold chains, rings and bracelets in the solution for up to 10 minutes. Finally, rinse the jewelry in warm water to remove the residue of ammonia. Polish your gold jewelry with an alcohol wipe to shine.

Clean your chains, bracelets and silver earrings with 4-5 drops of liquid soap and 2 cups of warm water. Silver Rinse in cold running water, then dry with a towel. For stubborn stains, mix a paste of three parts baking soda with one part water. First wet your silver jewelry under running cold tap water. Use the paste of baking soda in silver with a soft clean cloth. Rinse your jewelry completely dry on a towel and small flat.

For knots or tangled chains first spray talc or cornstarch to unravel. If the lump is large or too tight, insert a small straight pin through the center of tangled metal. Twist and turn the pin gently to untangle the knots.
Store your jewelry in a box lined with velvet padded or after each use to prevent discoloration and fogging.
Secure loose stones with glue. Apply 2 to 3 drops of transparent glue at the bottom of the loose stone. Be careful not to let the sticky substance hardens or spill over the stone. Add glue to the bottom of the stone with a clean toothpick.
